They are younger this year, but still a well coached team.  SRR is hoping to notch their first win of the season.  It is parents night for the Warriors, so it should be a great night to be at the game.

Historic Meeting:  Ron Stolski (56th Season) has 374 Wins and Beckers head coach Dwight Lundeen (47th Season) has 351 Wins in their careers.  Brainerd and Becker have never met on the field for football.  With a combined 103 seasons of football, these two coaches have see many changes to the game, but both have embraced the idea that football is more than what happens on the field, it is what football can teach players about life.

Becker Overview:   Becker has a fine team with a record of 3-2, just like our Warriors. They are well-balanced offensively and featue one of the best backs we will see this season. Defensively. their nose guard is a Division 1 recruit. They are a very well coached team.  Both of these have the ability to point a lot of points on the board.  So this game may come down to whose defense and special teams play the best.

Coaches Notes:  After experimenting with the Spread offense last season, Sauk is back in the Wing T offense that they had played for a number of years. The "look' is very much like our opening opponent Elk River, a team that gave our inexperienced defense real problems in our opener. On defense, SR is very active , and will stunt and fly to the ball. Sr will provide  a real challenge to our improving team!

Location: Hodapp Field (Kennedy Elementary)  (Tickets: $6-Adult/ $4- Students)

2014 Result: Brainerd (20) vs Willmar (39)

Head to Head Record: 26 Wins- 18 Losses- 1-Tie Brainerd Leads Series

Willmar Overview:  After a promising and dominating win over the Warriors last season, it looked like they would contend for the conference title.  However the season ended in disappointment with a 3-5 overall record and only 1 win in the South Division, which was against Brainerd inthe second game of the season.

A team very similar to last week's opponent. Very good passing attack featuring an outstanding QB and excellent receivers. Perhaps better defensively than was St. Cloud Apollo. The first of a challenging road game schedule. It is always important to travel well and retain good game focus.

Brainerd's Keys To the Game:

1)  Create turnovers.

2) Respond well to the ebb and flow ... play one play at a time..

3) Continue to improve re; fundamentals, technique.. and especially with consistent Warrior effort.

Willmar has always been a tough opponent for Brainerd.  Brainerd won at Willmar on 2013 and Willmar won at Brainerd in 2014.  Willmar may be rebuilding, but they always seem play Brainerd tough and close.

Final Score

Brainerd 35- Apollo 6

St. Cloud Apollo Overview:  St. Cloud Apollo finished 5-3 in the Central Lakes Conference- South Division in 2014.  Apollo is an outstanding offensive team. Spread offense with an excellent passing attack.  QB was 22-28, 270 plus yards and three touchdowns in an opening win VS Cambridge. Defense is big and physical, but inexperienced.  They continue to improve each year and should be a good challenge to our Warriors.

Brainerd's Keys To the Game:

1)  ELIMINATE TURNOVERS

2)  DEFEND THE PASS GAME WITH PRESSURE AND MULTIPLE COVERAGES

3)  CONTROL THE RYTHMN OF THE GAME THROUGH OUR OFFENSE.

Brainerd has dominated this series, but St. Cloud Apollo led late into the game in 2014.  St. Cloud Apollo's last win (21-17) versus the Warriors came back in 2003.

Brainerd Warriors (0-0) versus Elk River Elks (0-0)

Date: Saturday, August 22, 2015 @ Noon (Time Change)

Location: BHS- Adamson Field
Last Meeting Result: 2007 (Brainerd 30- Elk River 8)

Head to Head Record: 6 Wins- 5 Losses- Brainerd Leads Series

Final Score

Brainerd 28- Elk River 51

Elk River Overview:  Elk River is used to playing many 6A teams and return a solid team from last year.  The Elks pose real problems in that we have not played them since they hired a new coach and deploy an offensive system that we are not familiar with. That said, over the past few seasons, they have enjoyed a good deal of success with that system , and come into this season as one of the top ranked 5A teams in the state.

Brainerd's Keys To the Game:

1) Play well in the "special teams area"

2) Play disciplined football

3) Eliminate turnovers

Brainerd has not faced Elk River for 8 years and only twice in the last 25 years, but now with the redistricting of conferences, Elk River will be a regular foe.  Brainerd and Elk River have played 11 times and Brainerd leads the series 6-5.  In 1990 Brainerd lost 20-14 in the MN State Semi-Finals to Elk River.
